BACU Local 1 Executive wishes all members a happy and safe New Year’s.

There are a few upcoming events Local 1 wishes to bring to your attention. Alicia and I are preparing for three events that will be taking place over the next few months.

First is the Working at Heights, Globally Harmonized WHMIS and 4 Steps Safety training that will be facilitated by our trainer, Ryan Dickinson. Dates for these courses will be run on the Saturdays of January 25th, February 1st, and 8th. Courses will be held at the Union Hall from 8am to approximately 230pm. Alicia has a list of members she is reaching out to via email, who training needs to be updated this year. Check your card and contact Alicia if your expiry date is in 2025.

You must have your Working at Heights to legally work on a jobsite! Do not put off your training.

Secondly, Local 1 has arranged with our Financial Advisor, Brandon Eyre, to have a financial seminar here at the Union Hall from 9am to 11am on January 18, 2025. Our financial health is just as important as our physical and mental health. It is NEVER too early or late in our careers to learn more about money management. There is no cost and if you wish to bring your spouse or partner along, they would be most welcome. Please reach out to Alicia 905-527-8414 or me, Dave, 905-517-0884 to book a spot. With a good turn out, we will have more seminars about what matters to our members.

Thirdly, Brandon Eyre, will have tax clinics on the Saturdays of March1st and March 15th, 2025. The cost will be $40 for each basic return. Brandon will prepare and electronically send in your 2024 tax return to Revenue Canada and will let you know what your return will be. Please contact Alicia or me to book a time for you to come in.

These are some of the things your Union is doing for you! I would appreciate your participation in all these events. As bricklayers, we have many common issues. Through your support and feedback, we can help each other and strengthen our unity! We are BACU Local 1
